寫給女兒的信——英文版
When you see this letter today , perhaps you’re in Changsha already. This is your first trip. We feel contradictory fearing that you’re not able to take care of yourself. But my daughter has grown up , she has little wings and she’s flying up in the sky. So I , deeply from my inner heart , believe that my daughter would be capable of this.

We are beyond worried about your first trip on your own. Memories hit me like it was still yesterday. We’ve been through so many stories , so many sighs and so many bittersweets in these few days. But I wanna let you know this: I had begun to be proud of you before you were even born. I’ve been telling myself to be kind and patient to you every time you cry. You were born with bright eyes like the star , which the nurse said was rare to see. That was a happy thing. Everything about you grows since your birth. I see you fed , I ride with you in my arms , I get upset when you catch a fever and I make you asleep in quietness. I would always be there for you while every single FIRST TIME of you happens. First time you speak , first time you lie , first time you stand , walk , recite a poem and sing a song , which proves we don’t have to worry any more. We are proud of that. I can remember you crying when I sent you to the kindergarten. That was the first time you left us. You spoke on the stage on behalf of all students , which made your headmaster and teachers surprised how come you could speak so much and so well.

Each and every teacher of yours is never mean enough to pay you compliments about your smartness. When I look back , I can see such an excellent daughter of mine. You are kind , honest , smart , hard-working , filial , frugal , conscious and trustworthy. Those are your advantages. Well , you , of course , have some shortcoming as well. Like , you’re always trying to get everybody’s attention. You’re sometimes jealous , sleep-loving and a little bit greedy. Maybe we’ve been much too strict with you , which makes you upset. Sometimes we treat and educate you in a bad way , but please keep calm. You should know that this is our obligation and responsibility to make you grow in healthy circumstances. I’ve never required you to be a talent or something , I only wish you a happy and complete personality and a healthy body. Do remember , my girl :happiness is the motivation of life and confidence is the source of wisdom. While facing anything , say”Okay , I can do this! ” Or at least you can say “Just let me try. ” It’s a funny contradiction between health , happiness and studying. Your father had been through this bittersweet of studying as well. Life was difficult then. We got neither enough food nor enough enthusiasm. I want you to live your life freely without any constraint , but you gotta know that I’m also helpless under this increasing pressure of employment. Every time I see you do your homework until 12 o’clock at midnight , I curse this evil examination-oriented education. In this unprecedented era of study competition , however , if others are trying their best and you’re not , you have only one result : to get weeded out. This , my daughter , is the first letter your father has ever written to you. Don’t think your father’s been tired. I don’t even know what to write in the very first letter without the summer camping. We should thank Captain for this.
Last but not least , mom and dad are expecting your progress. We hope you study hard and require yourself strictly. Make your life colorful , my dear , and go for your even brighter future.
